Fonejacker picked up in U.S.A.
MIP NEWS: Fonejacker, the BAFTA-winning cult prank callshow from Hat Trick Productions, has been sold to a leading US cable channel.
Comedy Central has picked up both series of the original comedy, which was produced by Hat Trick in the UK for E4, aiming to TX them in summer 2009.
The deal was brokered by Hat Trick International, which has also sold Fonejacker to XYZ in Australia, C4 in New Zealand, TV2 in Denmark and Sweden's ZTV.
The Fonejacker (Kayvan Novak) is the brains and voice behind an array of wildly inventive characters who make prank calls. Sometimes pushing the limits, characters include Terry Tibbs, the car salesman who makes dodgy dealing an artform, and Mr Doovde, who talks in bewildering abbreviations.
The show has been one of C4's most successful comedies since it first aired in 2006.
